Louis Casteelen

My name is Louis Casteelen (born 1962). In the early 1990s, I was introduced to Shiatsu through a serious knee injury. Shiatsu provided significant pain relief and had a healing effect. I personally experienced what Shiatsu can mean for someone.

At the time, I began a five-year professional training program to become a Shiatsu therapist at higher vocational level at the Cultural Foundation for Massage Movement Arts (CSMBK) in The Hague. In the spring of 2002, I successfully completed this program and founded my practice, Shiatsu Rotterdam.

To this day, I regularly attend lessons with my teacher Yoshinori Miyashita Sensei (and until 2006 also with Peter Bacas Sensei (1938–2006)). They continue to be a great source of inspiration and motivation in an endless learning process.

In addition, I participate annually in workshops and continuing education courses at CSMBK, covering topics such as diabetes, stress, and cardiovascular diseases. I have also completed a medical fundamentals course at higher vocational level, including subjects like anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

For many years, I combined my work as a Shiatsu therapist with a technical role in the theater. During that period, my clientele mainly consisted of dancers and actors.

In 2007, I had the opportunity to purchase a live-work space in Katendrecht. Since everything had to be built from scratch, I was able to design the practice entirely according to my own wishes and ideas.

On October 24, 2009, the practice space on Brede Hilledijk was officially opened by my teacher Yoshinori Miyashita Sensei, accompanied by loud Japanese drumming and fireworks.

Since 2013, I have been fully dedicated to providing Shiatsu treatments and teaching at the Shiatsu School The Hague.
